A fine of £20 and £10 10s costs was,--at the Guildhall, imposed -upon the Wholej ' sale Tobacco Company (Limited), ol ; Aldersgate, for selling cigars to which a false trade description — viz.*. " Havana " — was applied. The cigars were got up iike Havanas, but were made by a firm m; Whiteohapel. The Victoria Cross was instituted 53 years ago. The honour has been conferred on 522 men. The first feat for which the Cross was granted was performed at Bomarsund on June 21, 1854. by the present Admiral C. D. Lucas, ana the latest m Thibet, by Captain J D. Grant, Bth Gurkha Rifles.
