One of the deadliest poisons known to botanists is the common daphne, one berry of which has killed a child m less than 2Q minutes. Major-general Irving Graham, of Mon* tagu street, W.C, did not appear at the Bloornsbury County Court on a judgment summons, but sent a letter asking fcr an. adjournment, adding, "I wish a fundi could be raised for veteran retired) officers, who need it quite as much as 'ths rank and file." The case was adjourned. The Nimes (France) Court of Appeal awarded £240 damages to a lady who claimed that amount as compensation for nervous shock sustained under curious oir* cumstances. The lady, who waa in_ a' delicate state of health, was taking het: favourite poodle for an airing when a large boarhound attacked and mangled her pet. The lady fainted and serious illness followed. On recovering she brought het euit for damages against the owner of thf boarhound.
