THE NEW DUTIES. (FHO3£ OUR.OWX CoiptESFOinDEN-T.) WELLINGTON, March 12. The following decisions in connection with* the interpretation of the T-aViff Act have been made. The figures in backets denote the preferential surtax on foreign goods, which, except in the caae of four of the items, comes into force on let April- next : — Nails (bootmakers), over ona inch in length; pvjama girdles, stamping iron for' the manufacture of transformers, twine (brushmakere), two-ply (if cut into lengths-, not exceeding 12 inches), free. Ay? pumps and tanks for supplying- air to soldering 1 blowpipes, 20 per cent. (10 per cent.). , Arrasene embroidery, 20 per cent/ Belts (Jean and lumbago), 25 per cent. 'Billiard)' chalk, 20 per cent. (10 per cent.). Bullets,' tens the hundredweight,' cage for lifting mine trucks, 20 per cent (10 per cent.).,! Cement, "Decolite," ingredients for making, 20 per cent.
