The death has occurred at Bournemouth of Mrs Garrett, a. survivor of the siege of Lucknow. At the ape of 19 she married, in 1854, Lieutenant Alexander John Dashwood, 48th Bengal Native Infantry, and in the same year accompanied her husband to India. On the outbreak of. the Mutiny they were at Lucknow, and during that terrible time of trial the sufferings she underwent were accentuated by the lose of her husband, an infant son, and her brother-in-law. Mr* Dashwood behaved during the eiege with remarkable fortitude, succouring the wounded, and doing her utmost to encourage the little band whose numbers daily diminished, but who sjoutly held out. She is repeatedly mentioned by Sir Joseph Fayrer in bis" Recollections, having lived in his house at the Residency, and was the intimate companion and friend of Lady Inglis, Lady Fayrer, and Mre Case. Mrs Daehwood was present at the death of Sir Henry Lawrence. She married in 1894 her cousin, Colonel Algernon Robert Garrett, only son of General Sir Robert Garrett, X.C.8., whom she survived three years. Both are mentioned in " Two Noble Lives."
