ATTEMPTED SAFE ROBBERY.

AN ARREST MADE. AUCKLAND, March 12. The detectives have steadily been pur* si«nK investigations in connaction with the attempted safe robbery at tha Rotoru* Railway Station. An arrest has been made, and further developments are expected. Subsequent investigation proves beyond doubt that expert thieves were at work. The attempt to wreck the safe wae evidently the work of experienced safe breakers. Mr D. Hyauiason, locksmith, of Auckland, was engaged by the Government to f?o up and complete the work of opening the safe. On making an examination he found the lock completely shattered. The steel plates were broken, and all the rivets blown out. A dynamite oap and fuse were found in the office, but it is believed that a much stronger explosive than dynamite was used in the bursting process. The thick steel plates were bent and broken, the rivets and fittings absolutely shattered, and the steel locks broken into two pieces. The top-casing was pretty well blown Tight off. Had the intruders not been alarmed another 10 minutes' work would have been sufficient to enable them to 'secure the contents d th« safe, amounting to £70 or £80.
