SEIZURE OF A STEAMER
JAPAN INDIGNANT. TOKIO, March 9. On Thursday Japan reiteratod her de- ' mand regarding the seizuie of the steamer Tatsu Mam off Macao, and intimated that in the absence of a prompt reply ?he might be compelled to take action to upI hold the dignity of the nation, and to ensure the safety of her subjects. The Government at Peking on Inday expressed deep regret at the removal of the Japanese flag, and promised to punish the official implicated, and also offered to reply further regarding the seizure of arms and ammunition. LONDON. March 9. The Tokio correspondent of The Times reports that the nation is greatly excited over the Tatsu Maru seizure. The Japanese consignor and the Portuguese consignee strictly complied -with all the legal formalities.
