BENEVOLENT TRUSTEES.

I Last week's meeting l of the Benevolent I Institution Trustees was attended by Messrs W. T. Talboys (chairman), W. Burnett, A. H. Brid?er," J. M. Gallaway, and J. Loudon (Mayor). It was reported that Frederick Tootell, aged 70, had died in ! the institution during the week. The outdoor relief cases for February were 300, ! representing 139 men, 200 women, and 498 i children; the cost per week amounting to ' £100 2s 6d. For the corresponding month ! of last year the cases were 333, comprising I 148 men, 218 women, and 505 children. ! Tenders for the supply of stores were re- ! ferred to the Finance Committee for re- ! port. The Secretary explained that ther-e were cases of old-age pensioners in the insti< utinn who were inclined to waste their pensions in diink. and he asked that something should be done in the matter. It was r-esolved that in these cases the ! secretary should obtain authority from the old-age pensioners to apply any surplus money belonging to them as he might think bost for their benefit. Mr Gallaway siurn-ested that in addition to confining offenders for being the worse of «q uor thoy should make at -a condition that they should take out prohibition orders acamst •.hem^lve*. It was decided -to accede to the request of the Charitable Aid Board Ihat they 'the trustees) should distribute outdoor relief in Dunedin and suburbs. Mr Bumott objected, because he considered that the whole thing should be under the one board. It was further agreed to cup>ly the board with all the information that niiaht bo required in connection with rhe contributing bodies and the dstributiqn of c-hartv.
