SHIPPING CONFERENCE. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, March 6. Though a final settlement has not been reached at the Shipping Conference that | has been sitting here, it is understood that , the shipping- companies have agreed to the increase in wages asked for by the men — vis., 10s a month all round, but no agreement has been come to in regard to payment for overtime, nor as to several other matters. The questions still at issue will be submitted by the representatives of the Seamene Union to the members of the | union, tf they assent on these points to the condition* agreed to by the companies, then the whole of the terms will be embodied in one document, and an application will be made to the Arbitration Court to make it an award of the court, to take the place of the existing award, which 1 expires on the Ist of next month.
