CHRISTCHURCH, March 6. The advance in the wheat market at Home and in Australia, has been reflected locally, snd growers are now holding out for the prices obtainable before the recent fall took place. 4s Id and 4s 2d beirg their limit. There was a good deal of wheat put into store during the lull in the market, and growers who ha\e thus seemed their grain ure now in a position to hold. Offerings are limited and sellers are firm in their ideas of value. Among the sales reported aie 1090 bushels of Hunters at 4s, 600 bushels of Tuscan and pearl at 4s Hd, 4600 bushels of Tuscan and 1300 bushels of Hunters at 4s 2d at country stations. Oats are still firm In price at quotations, and only small quantities ar-a being offered. A line of 1000 bushels of Gartons has been placed at 2s 2d ; 590 bushels of Duns at 2s Id, and other lots of milling Gartons at 2s lid to 2s 2d at country stations. Chaff is still difficult to procure, and until growers are satisfied with the price offered supplies .aie likely to be scarce, rb the machines have not yet got to woxk. The price offered is now £3 12s 6d at country stations. Ryegrass is still in good domand, and there is a scarcity of clover seed, cow-grass having reached a higher price than for some years. The market is almost bare of colonially grown seed, but in spite of the dry season a fair average crop is expected. OAMARU MARKETS. (From Oue Own Correspondent.) OAMARU, March 7. Following the trend of the London and other markets, wheat has advanced steadily during the week. Millers are now inclined to stand off and watch the course of the market, but a fair amount of business ha 3 nevertheless been done. Since the rain at the beginning of the farmers have been unable to do any threshing or much cartmg, and this, together with the natural indisposition of holders to sell while prices are rising, has had the effeot of checking offerings during the last day or two. In the early pait of the week sales were made at 4s Id to, 4s 2d, less commission, at country stations, and at the same prices net. The largest sales at these figures affect i arcels of 800 sacks of velvet and red chaff at 4s Id net, and about 1300 sacks of and Tuscan, the latter predominating, at 4a 2d net. The improvement of the last day or two is indicated by sales of a number of parcels of up to 300 sacks at 4s 3d net at country stations, while 4s 3d, less commission was also accepted. For one line of 300 sacks 4s 4d, less commission, delivered at Oamaru. was paid. Oats also are firmer, there being n steady inquiry from the North Island, but the wet weather has delayed carting, anc! the Auckjan9 steamer this week did not get the quantity of produce which would otherwise have been shipped.
