Fiee Public Library.— As the result of an interview with his Worship the Mayor recently we are able to announce that provision, will be m-ade in the Free Public Library for. the game of draughts, and also chess. This, is good news for country players as well aa for those in town ; and no doubt the draughts and jjhess room will become in time the central rendezvous of lovers of both gamea in Dunedin and surrounding district. Mr A. Matheson. — Recently we mentioned Mr Matheson's resignation of th« treasurership of the N.Z. championship tourney funtl because he was going Home. His objective point in the Old Country is the island of Lewis, in the north-west of Scotland, wher« he first saw the light. He purposes leaving New Zealand about March 15, and expects taf return early in October. Mr Matheson ha* taken a live interest in the game in Dunedini • since his residence here, and will be muchi missed from the Otago Club. We take this opportunity of wishing himi bon voyage and! a good game, with no time limit. Mr Wm. M'llwrick. — For the special benefitf of Sydney players, we make the announcement that Mr Wm. M'llwrick, the veteran, . bowler and draughts player, ia to be a member of the New Zealand bowling team which goes scalp-hunting in Australia at Easter time. The genial " Mac " ia in fin« form at both games, and if Sydney draughts players are in a strenuous frame of mind! they will lose no time in getting the New Zealander to " try that, ju»t to see how iff goes." And when they hear the worthy Scotsman use the expression quoted, they may expect some pretty earnest " trying."-
