AUCKLAND 1 , January 8. The philatelists and souvenir hunters wHof forwarded reply-paid messages to Lieutenant' Shackleton, leader of the Antarctic* polar expedition, on the eve of his departure 'fort the frozen south in the iope of securing! specimens of the King Edward VH Land stamps, have not been so successful as they, hoped to be. A jaumber of senders of. these messages in Auckland have reoeivedl replies from Mr A. B«id>, manager of th« expedition, stating that Lieutenant Shaokle* ton was unable to look at any of the letters. There were, it is stated, many hundreds of applications for the stampH, but it" being! "impossible to sell the same'" the remit-* 1 tances have been j«tuxned to the senders. Some of these remittances were addressed to ' Lieutenant Shackletan at King Bdward VIE Land hy post from Lyttelton, but they have been returned from, -the latter port, and have thus not_ completed tho interesting journey they were expected! ta make when despatched. v
