SOUTH THIERI.
January 8. — During the holidays the weather haa been fairly fine, anS holidaymakers took advantage of it in every possible way. On Christmas day a large number oi people went to Brighton, but many spent the day at the fireside. New Tear's Day turned out «. beautiful morning, and a considerable number of people .went to the Taieri Mouth in Mt M'Kegg's steamer. From 8 till 10.30 a.m>. traps of all kinds could be seen making for Henley, and Mr M'Kegg had as niucn as he could do to meet tKe occasion. The journey to the mouth of the river was not accomplished till about 1 o'clock, while the steamer had ki make a double trip on ftie home journey, landing tihe last >oad at Henley somewhere about 9.30 p.m. However, on« and all enjoyed, themselves, and if all goes well next y«ar I fancy Mr M'Kegg will find it necessary to provide a lcTger launch. A fair number of people journeyed to Brighton and Berwick, at which places sports were held.
