Major Henry Coates Phillips entered Crockham, the Hampshire residence of his wife, from whom he is divorced! She safely- fled after the major's first shot. Major Phillips then shot her mother and Mr Smith, a solicitor, "seriously, and after-•wa-rcle commiiied snieide. - * January 5. It transpires that prior to the shooting of his mother-in-law Major H. Coates Phillips (who had been divorced by his wife) asked the latteT to remarry him, taut she refused. At the inquest on Phillips (who shot himself after shooting at the others) a, verdict of insanity was returned. The. wife's mother has succumbed to her injuries.
