OBJECTION TO LUPULITE.

At the Wyndham meeting, which was (held on January 1, Lupulite won the Flying Handicap very easily, but he has yet to survive an appeal which was lodged against his owner receiving the stakes on She ground that his rider was not entitled to hold a jockey's license. The Wyndham dob irere somewnat chary about dealing .with the matter, and dismissed the protest in order that the case should be settled fey the Dunedin. Jockey Club. Under the New Zealand Rules of Racing a. trainer can hJold a jockey's license, but the privilege of Tiding is .-restricted as follows:—"^© trainer, -who is also a jockey, -shall ride- in any race in which more than one horee trained (either wholly or partially) by Viimself runs, < and if be. rode in _a. q^tce in .which a horse trained by ium runs, 'he shall ride that horse. If any trainer snail fail to comply with this rule, the hojse in respect of which such failure to comply shall have occurred shall 3e disqualified for the race." R. M'Eay* who rode Lupulite at Wyndham, is also the owner (under lease) and trainer, and the rule on which the protest is based 5s part xxii, section 2, clause (d), which" reads that "no jockey's license shall be granted to any person who _is flic owner, part owner, lessee, or part lessee of anyhorse in training, or has a-ny interest in »ny such, lorse, which interest ... is Required to be registered, or is the husband i>f any such person."
