LUMSDEN.
December 30. — The crops in this district present a most luxuriant appearance, and» there is very prospect of a bountiful harvest. So far the potato crop seems to be free from blight. Wedding.— A quiet wadding was celebrated in the Lumsden Presbyterian Church, on December 18, when Sir A. S. Sutherland and Miss M'Pherson were joined in the bonds of matrimony. The Rev. Mr Lymburn officiated. The young people left for the north by train amidst showers of rice. Presentation. — The business men of the town met recently, and made a presentation -to Messrs A. and J. Sutherland, who are about to leave the district. Mr G. F. Johnson, who presided, on behalf of the .subscribers, presented to Mr A. S. Sutherland handsome pieces of silver plate> and to Mr Ja^ as Sutherland a oaEe of pipes. Hack Races. — A good oourse has been secured for the hack race meeting, to be held l in February, within easy reach of the town ? and, as a liberaL programme has been framed, a successful meeting is anticipated. Sports. — The Lumsden Caledonian Society's sports were held on the 25th. Tha weather conditions were favourable the attendance large, and the management being good, everything passed off most successfully. The events were- keenly contested.
