In tha j manufacturing districts, machinery continues ; well employed on the execution of old orders, but the declining tendency of prices in the different oversea markets is naturally causing consumers -to act with very .great caution, i Xn , these circumstances some reduction ap- j pears probable in the value of both merinos i and erossbreds -at the auctions to open^ next ' week, although it is generally expected thait the more pressing needs of m«nufaoturexs will mitigate the extent of the fall. The programme ior the sales iifcs been issued, according to which the series will last until ■the 10th December. The supplies offered axe only modensite, hub appear equal to requirements at present. Canterbury aheep can be quoted up to 4Jdl per lb, and North Island sheep up to 3£d for good light sheep. This refpxeaen'tß an. adlvance of nearly |d per lb. Heavy-weight carcases and ewes remain unchanged in value. StocTsa are now in few hamd's, and are firmly > held, for quotations. The same two steamera have increased the light stocks of New sfealand lamlbs by 12,583 carca-ses. Quotations are 'not quite so firm, as, with the present limited demand the arrivals proved sufficient to turn the scale in favour of buyers. A few transactions- in Panterbury lambs have been recorded at 5f3 per lb v but the average is about s|a -to sja per lb. North. Island 1 descriptions are making 5Jd to .5Jd per lb.
