LONDON, December 9. At the wool sales competition wa6 rather slow. Merinos are unchanged. . , December 10. The wool sales closed slack at about ! late rates. I . December 11. j The number of bales cold for home consumption is 52,000, for the Continent 56,000, for America 2000, and held over 15,000. Best greasy and combing merinos met with steady demand at 5 to 7£ per cent, below October prices ; scoured, 10 per cent. ; short faulty, 10 to 15 per cent. ; crossbred slipes, sto 10 per cent. ; poorconditioned .parcels, 10 per cent. ; best lambs; 5 per cent. ; and faulty, 7£ to 10 per cent. SYDNEY, December 12. At the wool sales superior classes closed steady" at late rates. THE HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLESGRAM. WELLINGTON, " December 12. . The High Commissioner's cablegram from London, dated December 11, states that the wool sales have closed and the market is irregular and unsettled. On account of the money market being exceedingly stringent, buyers will not buy more than ie absolutely necessary, and competition is slight. 'The estimated values are as follow:— Fine crossbreds, all grades, Is to Is 3d ; medium crossbreds, all grades, 9d to ll£d; coarse crossbreds, all grades, 8d to lO^d; superior "merino, all grades, Is to Is 3d; medium merino, all grades. 10id to Is Oid; inferior merino, all grades, 7d to lOd. CHRISTCHURCH SALES. CHRISTCHUROH, December 12. At the wool sales to-day 17,000 bales were offered, a large portion of which were passed in. There was little demand for wool at holders' values, but merinos fetched 9id to 9|d for medium to good ; half-bred," super., lid to 12& d; medium to good, B£d to 104 d; inferior, 7£d to 8i<l ; three-quarterbred, super., 9d to 10£ d; medium to" good, Bid to B£d ; inferior, s|d to 8d ; crossbred, super., 9d to lOJd ; medium to good, 7£d to Bjd ; inferior, 6d to 7±d ; longwool, super., to 7d ; Down, medium to good, B^d to 9£d. The above •prices show better than last sale, which is accounted for by the superiority of the wool. sparingly, and some 3300 bales of New Zealand wools have been carried over till next series. Further, that the market remains very depressed, chiefly on account of the present financial difficulties.
