THE SIGNIFICANCE OF CHRISTMAS
Christmas brings home the significant fact that partings form one of our crosses in life, for seldom a year goes by but what some gap occurs in the family circle either by death, marriage, or force of circumstance. Never does that gap seem wjder than when all save and except that missing one are gathered (writes an English paper) about the Yule log ! And how the thoughts of all involuntarily turn to the missing one !
Yes, Old Christmas brings its sadness a^ well as its gladness, but is it not the "little rift within the lute" that makes the harmony more full and sweet, its melody more ringing, ite one little discord more thrilling? " Which is the best way to spend Christmas?" is a question that is often asked, and undoubtedly the best way to spend it is in such a way that the memory of its spending can bring nothing but happiness upon any subsequent Christmas when any of those with whom it was epent may recall it to mind.
