Inland from Gore (99 trilos by rail from Dunedin) thoio is good -hooting right up the Mataura Ri\er on both banks. Grey ducks, toai, pukeko. and paradise ducks are fairh numerous, and in fa\ourable seasons excellent sport is obtainable in the Waikaka. Waikaia. Otaniii. Riversdalo. and surrounding districts. In some of the^e localities the grey and paradise duck hi* adopt'- 1 the practice of frequenting the tailings and ponds at the roar of working dredges, and during tho shooting s-»a<on are often shot by the dredge hands Beyond Riversdale. in tho Balfour and Five Rivers districts, puk"kos are \ery numerous, ami ducks piradi«o and groy — are fairly plentiful; but nearly the whole of this country is strict lv preserved by private owners. Xokomai. Lumsden and all along the road to Like To Anau is goo.l duck shooting country, and paiadi«e ducks arc nurnerou-.
