RACING IN NEW ZEALAND.

LAKE COUNTY RACES. (From CTtjb Own Correspondent.) First Day— Friday, December 13. The weather was showery for the first day's races of the Lake County Jockey Club. The attendance was good, and the course was in excellent order. Some capital racing was witnessed. The sum of £1409 was put through the machine. 'There were good fields in tne principal handicaps, but the heck races did not nil as well as was expected. M'Skimming's starting barrier was used, and good starts were made. The course was in good order, and some excellent racing w«ta witnessed. The barrier was again used in starting, and some good starts were effected. ' The secretary (Mr Tobin) and the officials worked well for the success of the meeting. The amount put -through the machine- was * £1857, making a total of £2766 for the meeting. Both left the post together, and Miss Casket led till the top' of the straight was reached, when Lord Clutha made his run. For the 'first thtee furlongs Abusive, Casque, and Jolly Friar raced neck and neck, Speculate lying last. At the four-furlong post Jolly Friar tired, and Speculate drew on the leaders.
