LAKE COUNTY RACES. (From CTtjb Own Correspondent.) First Day— Friday, December 13. The weather was showery for the first day's races of the Lake County Jockey Club. The attendance was good, and the course was in excellent order. Some capital racing was witnessed. The sum of £1409 was put through the machine. 'There were good fields in tne principal handicaps, but the heck races did not nil as well as was expected. M'Skimming's starting barrier was used, and good starts were made. Results: — MAIDEN PLATE, Of 2580V5. Mr G. A good start was effected, and a capital race ensued. Casque and Jolly Friar raced together for some distance, with the others close up, but the latter died away coming into the straight.' Second Dat — Saturday, December 14. . The Lake County Jockey Club concluded a successful meeting t.o-day. The weather was fine,- but art occasional gale made the dust somewhat unpleasant. The course was in good order, and some excellent racing w«ta witnessed. The barrier was again used in starting, and some good starts were effected. ' The secretary (Mr Tobin) and the officials worked well for the success of the meeting. The amount put -through the machine- was * £1857, making a total of £2766 for the meeting. Cowan's Lord Clutha. by Legerity — S,tock Flower, 9.2 (Wingfield) 1 Mr Ruthven'a Miss Casket, 8.11 (Ruthven) > 2 These were the only starters. Both left the post together, and Miss Casket led till the top' of the straight was reached, when Lord Clutha made his run. For the 'first thtee furlongs Abusive, Casque, and Jolly Friar raced neck and neck, Speculate lying last. At the four-furlong post Jolly Friar tired, and Speculate drew on the leaders. Enchanter ISsec. Aratus led for the first quarter, when Lady Pet took command, and never left the issue in doubt. ' Whisper, trotting splendidly, beat Aratus in the straight for second place. Both raced together until the two-furlong post was reached, when Dr Jim drew away and won somewhat easily by twq lengths, Time, lmin 7sec. FAREWELL HANDICAP, Five furlongs Mr P.
