Rosemere is a rich brown with black points, and stands well over 16 hands high. He shows a lot of power and quality, and is one of the handsomest horses seen on the turf in recent years. Rosemere's sire. Westmere, was by the Musket horse Escutcheon, who was out of Rosette, a half-sister to Bend dOr, one of the most successful horses that England has produced^ Ben dOr sired Ormonde, the horse of the century, whose grandson (Flying Fox) holds the world's record for a price paid for a thoroughbred— that of 37,500g5. Escutcheon sired. Veneda, who was sold to go to India- at 1400gs. Weatmexe was out of Leonessa, a daughter of Petroleuse, the- dam of Hotchkies. Rosalind, tho dam of Rosemexe, was a. dam of a large * number of good horses, including Black Rose and Roseal (both I C.J.C Derby winners), Awarua Rose (third New Zea'and Cup), and Royal Rose (a good performer in Australia and New Zealand), whilst Star Rose (New Zealand Cup winner i 1906) is out of Queen Rose,' a- daughter of Rosalind. His grand-dam, Red Rose, was got by Traducer, and produced, besides Westnvere's dam. Mountain Lily (dam of Blazer, | one of the fastest horses ?een in the colony), { La Rose, Red Ensign (the dam of Red Lancer and Red Banner), and others. Albany, the sire of Westmere's dam,' was aiso the sire of Oudeis (winner C.J.C. Welcome Stakes, ', C.J.C. Derby, and other races), Disowned 1 (C.J.C. Derby and G.N. Derby winner), Non- | sense, Ruby (record holder of seven furlongs), ' Forbury, Day Dream, and others. Roeemere stood for three seasons in North Otago, and he left splendid stock.
