AUCKLAND BUTTER.
AUCKLAND, December 12. The total quantity of butter in cool store last night for shipment to Great Britain was 14,841 boxes, or 371 tons, against 14,751 boxes,* or 368 tons, for the corresponding fortnight of last year. The previous fortnight, at the close of November- last, saw 14,590 boxes, or 364 tons, shipped for Great Britain. It ie satisfactory to note that the quality of the butter is steadily improv- . ing. During the present season very large ttreas of land have been taken up for dairying purposes, particularly on the East Coast, and in the north of Auckland, and several j new factories have been ereoted, so that j the dairying industry is full of promise. j The great want is the provision of something like direct shipping facilities, it being felt that the district should not have to send its butter to Wellington for shipment, and thus allow the producer to run all the risks of deterioration attendant on the railway and coastal journey.
