HEALTH OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN.

The monthy meeting of the society for the Promotion of the HeaHh of Women and Children was held in the Town Hall on the 13th inst. Mrs Hosking presided, and there -were ako presejrt Mesdames Nisbet, Jackson, Denniston, Joachim, j Ritchie, Allen, Loudon, Ramsay, Harris, O'Neill, Donald, ' King, Carew (hon. eecre- j tary), Dr Agatha Adams, Misses Beswick, Cohen, Hofford, and Adjutant Duff. Apologies were received from Mrs Theomin and Sister Ernestine. A letter was read from the secretary of the department, informing the society that the Minister of Education regretted that he could not see hk way to accede to the society's application for a Government subsidy. On the motion of Mrs K. S. Ramsay, seconded by Miss Beswick, it was decided to ask Dr Ernest Williams to act as honorary medical officer to the society during temporary absences from the city of Dr Agatha Adams. On the motion of -Mrs Harris, Dr King was appointed consultant to the society. The following donations were acknowledged:—Mr D. E. Theomin £25, Mr J. Brown (annual subscription) £5. Mrs Massey £3 3s, Mr N. Stead (Hastings) £5 ss, Mrs Sinclair Thomson £1 Is, Mr James Richardson £1 Is, Mrs Laidlaw (Matakanui) £3, , Mr Stewart (Qrookston) £1. Business firms were also thanked for the generous dis- j counts allowed. | A general meeting of the society -was | subsequently held, when the rules "were ' amended to enable the soeeity to register under the Unclassified Societies Act.
