Notes from Alexandra.
(Fhom Otjb Own Cobbbspoothnt.) J ALEXANDRA, December 12. 1 Mining is quiet is all its branches. With recent rains the water supply for sluicing will now be plentiful. It came at an opportune time, as the supply was fast diminishing. At Matakanui and Bald HUI Flat sluicing is being carried on under favourable conditions; whilst at the latter place Symes and party's quartz claim is yielding some splendid-looking stone, and the crushing is most encouraging. Dredging is very quiet,' although most_ of the dredges are winning fair returns. Fink and party, on the Manuheriki*, are obtaining fair returns, and as this party is "a private one, and has not been very successful of late, the news of its success is received with much satisfaction locally. During the past few weeks come good returns have been secured from this dredge. Alexandra* Eureka is also doing well at present. Mr George Farquharson has been appointed dedgemaster, vice Mr I C. Curnow resigned.
