Ik* Merrinoar dredge, which sunk at BoatUMu's on W«daesday morning last, was mtocessfuUy lifted on Saturday evening last. The diwdg* had been ballasted on Tuesday afternoon, and some time between 10 o'clock o&d tha u«rt morning she aani. She was to have started dredging on "Wednesday. The dxedge sank in 19ft of water. No time was lost in making preparations for lenoating her, and a number of men were immediate'y employed in bringing up a tail race, so as to lower the water in the clam. This was completed on Saturday morning, and the dam was lowered sufficiently to allow the outer deck of the port pontoon to be out of the water, while the outer deck of the starboard pontoon was 6ft under the water. jJI hatchways and other openings under the water were closed, and a 12in centrifugal pump connected to the lower pontoon *nd driven by a 16 h.p. engine was set going. Three other emergency pumpa* were in the meantime got ready, but were not required, for after the big pump had been going for ono hour it was seen that the sbheme was going to be a success, an 4&t 6.90 the dredge was afloat. It is anticipated «h» will start dredging this, evening. This must surely be a record for lifting a sunken dredge, only three days elapsing from the 4fm» of sinking till ■ the machine was refloated and ready to Tesume work. The cause of her sinking remains yet a mystery. 39T0 hole was located, and she is quite tight, Th« export of coal last week reached 16,409 tons, which is % record for the port.
