POVERTY BAY.

The beach at Tokomaru Bay was strewn on the 9th inst. with fish unknown in these parts, and averaging 12in in length. Europeans and Maoris filled many 3acks with them. The Native Land Commission has concluded its sittings at Waiapu. The area investigated was 127,217 acres, of whioh 55,542 acres is cleared land, carrying 72,275 sheep. Of this area probably from 30,000 to 40,0000 acres will be available for general settlement. A report on a further 95,000 acres will be submitted by Mr. Ngata. The heat lias been great for the past few days, and has been intensified by many ■ large bush fires. I
