PALMERSTON AND WAIHEMO.

The twenty-eeventh annual show of th« Palmerston and Waihemo County Agricultural and Pastoral Association wm held oa the Palmerston Show Grounds on the 6th. The day was perfect and the attendance large, the gate takings totalling £45 Bs.6d. There was a falling-off in the number of exhibits, this being observable particularly in the sheep section. Mr J. Ross, a larg« exhibitor in former years in English

tieioeetere, Lincolns, and Corriedales, was noticeably absent in these classes, a fact .which is dne to his having disposed of his property at Kartigi. This well-known Exhibitor, however, had some Border lieicesters in the show, although the number was not so great as formerly. Mr D. Boss, of Meadowbank, a large exhibitor in sheep and horses, was not prominent this year, and Mr P. Ireland, a former exhibitor of Ayrshire*, was absent from the entry list. The fat sheep were * good, lot and even in quality, but were too fat and heavy for generat use, thie applying particularly to the longwool wethers. The lambs were * prime lot of freezers. In the Border . Leicester class Mr J. Ross secured cham- | .pion honours for both ram and ewe with sheep, which have secured special attention | At other shows, and his other exhibits m j the class were probably as fine a lot as • could be Been, at any show in the Dominion. -J ISuglish Leicester^ and Lincolns were conspicuous by their absence, and Corriedales were not up to the usual standard, while crossbred hoggets were out of condition and scarcely up to show form. The pen of crossbred hoggets *ho wn were a good lot. In the Border Xefeester class it was noticeable • that the four-tooth and upwards ram, nnplaced at the Dunedin show, took third position yesterday, and beat the ram that took second prize at Dunedin. The cattle exhibits approximated to the usual ©umber in Tegard to. entries. The Ayrshires, in which there were the most numerous entries, were a. nice even lot of cattle, and Mr A. Gillies, who carried off thd championships and the- bulk* of the- prizes, exhibited his stock in good show condition. There- .were .only two exhibits in the Channel Island class, and one exhibit in the croesbreds, and cotter's ' And dairy 'cows were not a numerous elass^ although the exhibits in the classes named were .up to, jfche standard of previous ihows^ Shorthorns were a •good lot. Draught horses . were a fairly good- class on the whole, and the hacks, particularly in the lS^Btone and U-stone classes, were good exhibits, Mr W. Maxwell securing first in the last-named class after a close competition, and also first for a,. lady's hack with the same animal. The thoroughbreds were up to the standard of former years in number and quality, and the ponies were a good lot all round. The dairy produce section is always a good exhibit at- the . Palmenton show, and thie year's competition, in quality as well as number 'of exhibits, excelled that of previous years. The well-known exhibitor Mrs J. Belcher had a close contest with Mrs J. Williams for the largest number of points in this section, and lost first position by one point only. The Palmereton Brass Band was on tße ground during the day, and played a number of selections, and the secretary (Mr W r M'Gregor), press steward tMr W. B. Galloway), and other officials were courteous in supplying information fe the public 'and press. A telegram was received bjr the secretary during the day from the Hon. R. M Nab expressing regret that he was unable to be present owing to a. prior engagement, and extending a hope that the exhibitionr would be quite euoceaeful. The following is the prize list:—CATTLE.
