WELLINGTON PATENT SLIP.
WELLINGTON, December ♦.
The acquisition of the patent slip by the Union Company was affected by the purchase of a portion of the shares. The Harbour Board intended to acquire it if the negotiations with the Ow Company failed, and the chairman complains that the transaction has' been carried out behind their backs, and is against the spirit of what was intended when the Provincial Gave m men t gave their assent to the construction. "I may say," he adds, "#hat the Harbour Board will not, without a struggle, submit to seeing the foreshore at Evan's Bay vested in a private company, to the injury of the mosquito fleet of Wellington, without invoking the opinion of Parliament on the subject."

DecemTjer 5. i An emergency meetin* of the Wellington Harbour Board was held this afternoon to decide what' act-ion the board should take now that the Union Steam Ship Company j has acquired a controlling interest in the I Patent Slip Company. The question was discussed in committee. On resuming the board decided to instruct ite- solicitors to\ take irtepe to acquire the property and ! assets of the Patent Slip Company, either at a price to be mutually agreed upon, op conipulsoTily. The scheme to reclaim a wide area of Evans Bay to provide space for industrial | expansion was approved by the City Council to-night.
