GAMES.

The two interesting " Switchers" following were played between Messrs D. A. Brodie and H. Holden in -the ,Otago championship tourney now in progress. Four games were played, Brodie winning by 3.t0 1. For both pairs of games the spinning of the dial indicators gave 11 15, 21 17 as the opening, and the following are the first and third respectively.. >, .

Game 6476.—'

" Switcher."

Black wins.

(a) The move which caused the greatest controversy in the history of draughts, and on which Wyllie and Martins played a match of 20 games. The dispute was as to whether White could dtaw after 29 25. (b) Robertson gives this as a loss for White, playing thus— 24 30, 15 22, 23 19, 11 15, 19 10, 5 9, 14 5. 7 21, 27 23, 22 25. 32 27, 25 29. 31 26, 29 25, 26 22, etc. Lees' Guide would seem to approve this, as 24 19 is " starred " as the best or only move. The -itisb Draughts Player gives 24 19, and says. "34 20 is also good," and refers to Exercise 2. var. 1; but the play there given has no reference to this position at all.

Game 6477.—" Switcher."

(a) Appears to be a certain loss; 6 10 draws.

(B) Black has no waiting move, so must play this.

(c) This settles the question, and Black can only pursue a forlorn hope.

VICTORIAN" DRAUGHTS CHA.MPION-

The four last games played in deciding the championship between F. Salmon, of the Melbourne Draughts Club, and H. M'Diarmed, of the Prahran Draughts Club.

Game 6478.— " Kelso."

Game 6479.— '
