GAMES.

The following game, played at the Otago Chess Club some little time ago, between P. Forsyth, who was blindfold' (White), and G-. F. Dodds (Bla«k), is going the rounds of the chess press: — Centre Gambit.

Notes in the Leader. ' (a) Premature. (b) 7 . . . B-Q 2 should have "been played. (c) Deciding to retain his two Bishops. (d) An unpleasant consequence of the early advance of the Black QBP, (c) Simpler and better would have been 21 B x E eh, Q x R; 22 Q x P eh, K-B 1; 23 Q-R S eh, X moves; and White wins the Black Queen, either by 24 R-Q 1 eh or by 24 B-Kt 6 eh. (f) Obviously a slip. Black should have played 27 ... K-B 2. (o) It is stated that this capture, which leaves a mating position on the board, was deliberately made by Mr Dodds, who was "curious to see if Mr Forsyth would play for the mate." The following game, played between J?. S. Leonhardt (White) and Herr Tartakover (Black) in the Masters' International Tourney at Carlsbad, was awarded second prize for brilliancy: — Queen's Pawn Opening.
