THE TAHUNA PARK MEETING.

Time flic« so quickly that the concluding day of the Tahuna. Park meeting, which f-ell on Wednesday last, is now numbered among~t the almost forgotten tilings of the past ; but still it may not be oCit of Ihe way to touch on the chief features of the afternoon. In the firt>t place, the track was in much better order for the second day than it was when the meeting opened, and the going- was kept as near the thing 1 as possible by use of a water-cart, which did double duty, liecause it also kept the dust under control. Tornedo Bill, a son of the thoroughbred hore*> Torpedo (Musket Fanny Fi«her), "rorrd in the Publican."' Handicap v, ith a good dr-al to *pa>-e. ami he could ha\e stej'ped a much faster gait

than 3min 48 4-ssec if there had been anything in the field capable of keeping him busy. Fusee acted in splendid style in the James Memorial Handicap, and won nicely in 4min 54 l-ssec. Both the times mentioned above are enhanced try the tact that a strong breeze ■was blowing- throughout the afternoon, and the horses had to run in its face when going along the back stretch. In Fusee's race Success frequently mixed her gait, and Verax also went «p on two or three occasions, but the latter does not lose ground when he change* his grait. Arbitrator, who had previously finished second to Torpedo Bill, oame out again in the Electric Handicap and soared a comfortable win. Turk was made & good favourite for this race, but Pringle failed to get his mount going. Wargod also dallied a bit before getting to businefe in the Wayerley Handicap, but on this occasion Pringle met« with a better response from his mount, and, onoe fairly going, raced past to make a comfortable victory. Too Soon, a good cut of a mare by Gossoon, stepped 2m in 28 3-seeo in the Recovery Handican, and apparently was acting within her powers when doing so. Berlin M. raced with her for close on six furlongs, but he mixed before getting into the last quarter and lost his place. Taking the meeting all rounfl, it must be marked down as very successful both from a financial and sporting point of view. In more than one case, however, the interest in the racing waned because some of the fields would not act kindly and doubly handicapped themselves, frith the result that some of the events were won a long way from the 'poet. The improvement which has been effected to the track gives the horses considerably- more room to finish, and the going has been worked into good order. Tahuna Park records will be 6ure to go a bit lower.
