MAN FOUND DEAD.

ASHBURTON. December 9.

Last evening the body of a man named George Cochrane was found in an advanced stage of decomposition in a. hut at Elgin, Wakanai, about four miles from. Ashburton. A gun, containing a discharged cartridge, was found lying with the muzzle pointing towards the" body, and the came kind of cartridge were in the hut. Deceased was a single man, about 30 years of age, and had lived all hie life in the Wakanui district. All his relatives reside in the vicinity. - At the inquest the jury returned a verdict that the deceased mot his death from a gunshot wound, and that there was no evidence to show how uuch was inflicted.
