SALE OP IRISH LINENS

Messrs Alex. Harris and Co., auctioneers, report having -held a very successful sale of Irish linens on account of Mr Patrick Ambrose Kelly, of Belfast, Ireland. The goods arrived ex Victoria, Waikare, and Talune, and when opened out proved to be an especially attractive assortment of these famous linens*. Amongst the numerous articles "submitted were many valuable and ihandsome pieces in handwork, m which were much admired. During the three aays on which the sale has been held the auctioneers have quitted % great part of the goods, but. the stock being a large and extensive one, they have decided to sxhibit the goods for a few days.

FORTNIGHTLY LABOUR REPORT.

' W. E. S. Knight (Central Labour Exchange, Arcade, Dunedin) reports that during the past two weeks there has been a scarcity of men for all classes of country work, particularly shearers (blade), though machine men are arriving in droves from Australia. Wages offering for milkers are 22s 6d. musterer3 50s ploughmen 255, shearing cooks 50s, married couples £SO, £90 (but hard to procure with>ut encumbrance;. There is still a demand for good pick and shovel men at 9s per day. but that class oi workman do not care to .leave the tow»-
