MANSLAUGHTER CASES.
INVERCARGILL, December 3. At Orepuki to-day Alexander Ferric* was charged with manslaughter by culpably killing Alice Coleby. The accused was committed r or trial, bail being allowed. Ferrier was the driver of the traction engine which frightened the horse which the deceased was driving, and a fatal accident ensued-
DEATH OF A YOUNG GIRL. PALMERSTON N., December 6. A coroner's inquiry was held on the death' of Lucy Goldfinch. The evidence given by Alice Stubbs, a schoolmate of the deceased, showed that they were induced by a man, identified as Emamiel White, to have a ride on a horse. The pace was at first slow, but coon became faster, *.nd they slipped off. D»> ceased struck the ground first, and witneea fell on top of deceased. Another witness stated that the children fell off when the horse began to buck. Edwin Heorck said White advised the girls not to go too fast. Although fairly clo6-2, White did nothing to assist the children after the accident. White 6tatod that the pony was quiet, and the pace net more than a canter. The girls loot their balance, and fell backwards. The jin-y found that deceased died from injuries received by falling off White* horoe, and that White contributed to the accident by placing deceased on the horse and neglecting to take proper precautions for her safety. December 9. At the S.M. Court to-day a charge of manslaughter was brought against Env manuel White, and he was committed fo» trial at the next sittings of the Supreme Court. White, it will be remembered, gave two school girls a Tide on his horee, which broke into a sharp canter and threw them on to the road. One of the girls (Lucy Goldfinch) sustained a fractured skull, and subsequently died. The case against Whit* rested on the point that he contributed towards the giri'a death by failing to talc* proper precautions for her safety.
