NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the New Zealand Bowlii.i* Association was held on the 6th inst., when there were present — Messrs W. All nutt (chairman), C. T. Paterson, W. Allan, J. White, and R. T. Wheeler (secretary).
The Secretary explained that the meeting was called for the purpose of considering whether the outgoing or the incoming council should control the annual meeting on Monday next. He had obtained legal opinions on the subject, and it seemed pretty clear that the old council would present to the forthcoming meeting its report and balance sheet. That was to say, the old council did not go out of office until the close of Monday's meeting, when the now council would come into office.
The meeting copcurred with this view,
The voting papers received from the six centres in connection with the election of the council of the N.Z.B.A. gave the following results:— W. Dali 46, W. Waddell 46, E. A. Smith 44, W. Allan 41, J. M. Gallaway 29, W. Austin 28, C. Grey 19, H. F. Moss 12, A. Stoneham 8, M. Sinclair 3.
The Secretary pointed out that the present meeting could not declare Messrs Dali, Waddell, Smith, Allan, Gallaway, and Austin elected. That would have to be done at Monday's meeting.
The balance sheet of the N.Z.B.A. for the year ended July 31, 1907, was submitted to the meeting. Inoidentallv, it showed that the receipts from the Christchuroh tournament amounted to £267 10s, while general receipts amounted to £98 Is 3d. The following gentlemen were declared elected on the motion of Mr Wheeler: — Mr W. C. Allnutt. president ; Mr J. Brown, vice-president; Mr F. R. Smith, treasurer; Messrs W. Allan, W. Austin, W. Dull, J. M. Gallaway, A. E. Slmith, and W. Waddell. council.
The Secietary (Mr Wheeler) said the new constitution was now ready, ami asked the council to rt«olve that it be orinted and circulated. — The matter «v allowed to stand over for the 1 ew council to deal with.
The Secretary 6aid he thought a vote of thanks should be passed to the retiring executive. No one more than himself was cognisant of the work it had done in trying to promote the true interests of bowline. He felt sure it would be a long time before they would get tho same clacs of enthusiasm to inspire the game as they had had in the past. The future lay before them, and he was not a prophet, and could not tell what it might bring forth; but he felt sure they could never have among their rnnks a better class of officers than they had had afcsociated wi r h them. He supposed the motion lie proposed should be carried by acclamation.
The applause was confined to the mover, and the presumption ib that the -vote was carried.
During a run of one of the motor boats about the Timaru harbour and bay, a cry of "Man overboard!" caused a few heads to be turned to the spot whence came the words, but\it was found that all that had happened was that a doll belonging to a child had gone to a watery grave. The boat did not fitop to rendor assistance.
At tho Milo End, London, Guardian 1 ;' inquiry a. witness said he did not like to call people 'hieves, "but the action of tho Guardians was most inrnranex."
