AN AUCKLAND BANKRUPTCY.

A bankruptcy which Mr Gerard, the officiaJ assignee, characterised as a flagrant case wes inquired into at a meeting o£ creditors yesterday. The bankrupt, who was a building contractor, commenced operations in 1902 with a capital of £35, ancj up to the time- when it was considered advisable that hie affairs should be given into otl'cr hands had undertaken svven contracts, of which ho completed six. One of these resulted in a proht, but the others, according to his own statement, were lamentable fai'ures. Tn ojip undertaking alone, involving -sonio £600, h<> was a victim to the extent- of about £400, v lnlo in two others for lesser amounts ho feuflered to the extent/ of £170 vi each case. The bankrupt's business tran^at lions will be further investigated on Wednesday next.
