Mr Hevins, secretary of the Tariff Commuurion, in the course of a letter to. the press, cays that the new Franco-Canadian Convention materially reduces the margin. <>f British preference* He adds: "If other. Continental, countries are given the benefit o! the intermediate tariff, British trade in the Canadian market will be subjected to far more etreniious competition than it is at present."
