FIRST AID AND NURSING EXAMINA-
TIONS.
The following is the second issue of results of Ambulance First Aid and Nursing Examinations. Results have yet to be issued f orthe following <olaaM6 -. — Purakanui, No. 2 Company Engineers, So. 2 Company Field Hospital, Mataura, Invercargiil Workshops, 'Kurow, Kakanui, Owaka, Oamaru, Palmerston.
During, last wiater about 750 persons .have availed tnemselvßS of /the privilege' of flic first, aid lectures and a considerable number have gone up for examination. A class is now being formed at -Waikaka Valley. The association *is uainjr "every effort to keep alive the interest in first aid work, and, as far as foods are available, is Diacing first aid hampers and stretchers where trained men and women can use them.
The association hopes next winter to bring up the numbeo* c(f those attending Jectorfls to at least 1000. The public will have, a -good opportunity _of .helping tfoa association next Hospital Saturday.

The electric locomotives meed in the Simplon tunnel can travel at 44 miles an hour.
A Chicago company has made for an American sasvmille plant what is claimed to be the largest single leather belt in the world. It was made from pure oak-bark tanned leather, j« Win in width, three-ply in thickness', and weighs just 23001b. The belt is lUft long; it took the centres of the hides of 225 steers to make it. and each piece of this leather was separately stretched before being placed In the belt. A belt of about the eime size has been tunning fm uy uy yearo at a fepinxui*^ nui^ v. Ghent.
