PRESENTATION OF PRIZES.

This year's competition festival was brought to a close on the 15th, whm another fine programme wes given by successful competitors and the prize certificates were presented by the Mayoress (Mrs Loudon), assisted by the Mayor. The attendance of the public was fairly good, though not so large as that of the previous evening! During an interval the presentation ceremony was carried out, and at its conclusion the Mayor spoke, heartily congratulating the priie-winners and thanking the public for its appreciation of the work done by the sooiety at this year's competitions. He was indeed pleased to be able to say that, although the expense of running the festival was very heavy, he thought the financial result on this occasion would be something better than the previous year. — (Applause.) Thoy would agree with liim that the society did a great deal of good in the musical and elocutionary world, helping on the younger competitors, and showing all exactly how they stood in comparison with each other. He sincerely hoped and trusted the society would continue to flourish from year to year. — (Applause.) The Mayor went on to refer to the excellence of the judging, which he felt assured had the confidence of both competitors ' and public. Both Mr Baeyortz and Mr Peck had " been exceedingly painstaking in their work, and the forraer had worked exceeding hard, not sparing himself in any way. Mr Peck had also been most conscientious in his departments. The speaker repeated his best wishes For the future welfare of the sooiety.

During the evening the piano duet " Elves" was played by Misses Kathleen Levi and Vera Moore, and pianoforte solos by Miss Queenie Foster (" Valae Impromptu in G "), and Miss Gladys Lorie (" Air de ballet"). Miss Ruby Park sang the soprano solo, "The magic month of May," Miss Dorothy Gardner the sacred solo "Entreat me not." Master Manny Diake the junior's song " I wonder if ever the rose," and Miss Liddell the winning, humorous song. Humorous recitations were given by Mrs Sutcliffe, Miss Lulu Arnold, and Master Mortley Peake, while Miss Dorothy Naumann and Miss Flojence J. Pacey also gave readings. Both the test choir selections were rendered by the King Street Congregational Choir.
