The barque Bengairn, which left Newcastle for Antofagasta on November 2, was towed into Sydney on the 12th inst. in a crippled condition. She had a thrilling experience on the Australian coast. After making her offing she encountered a torrifio gale. The cargo shifted, and the barque, with a great lurch, went on her beam ends.

'■reat seas thundered all over her. Her .hatch coverings started, and the water began to find its way below. The masts were cut away in order to save the vessel. The vessel was 300 miles off the coast at the time, but she managed to make the coast safely.

As the outcome of the fire on the steamer Indramayo. about 500 tons of cargo were damaged by water. A general average contribution of 2£ per cent, is being collected in Sydney.
