CAVALRY TOUR NAMENT.

The annual sports engaged in. by ths> Otago Hussars prior to their breaking camp was held at Forbury Park on Saturday and attracted a- large number of persons, ladies' being specially numerous. The weather was all that could be desired, and th» various events were got off with as much expedition as possible, but despite this fact it was after half-past 6 before the Balaclava melee, with which the- programme concluded, was finished. The mounted dteplay by the squadron, interesting as ifc is. might very well be left out on future occasions, ana so give visitors an opportunity of seeing, the programme completed without having to wait till 6.30 — a thing; they certainly will not do. The only faille that could 1 ne found with the arrangements) on Saturday was that the Hussars tried to* put too much into too short a space o£ time. As usual, everything \ra» carried through with regularity and military precision, but the work of supervision, or, rather, control of the different events fell on altogether too few shoulders, the reßttrto being that the willing few had to work like horses and had just about as fatiguing? an afternoon as the men taking part in th« competitions, and everyone knows what sort of work cavalry competitions entail. The press has to acknowledge the customary courtesy from the officers of the squadron-, who are always exceptionally ready to supply all the information required by the news-getter. The turn out of men. was very good, there being 48 out of m. total strength of 52 present, and the four absentees were accounted for quite eatfafaotorily.
