Worship pointed out that a statement of the rateable value of the borough had been forwarded to the secretary of the board some time ago with a request that a npte be forwarded showing ' the payment to . Tj* made by the borough. ■ No note of assessment had yet been received, and no demand had been made upon the borough for L«6£. payment, and it was unfair to impeach the credit of the town by classing it as a, ' defaulter under such circumstances. The Mayor further pointed out that for over 12 months -not one resident of the ■town had been in receipt of charitable aid. Aid was distributed in Naseby ; . hot, however, to residents in the borough, ' but to residents in the Maniototo County. Nasebv had a " very creditable- credit balance, and was one of the soundest boroughs financially in the Dominion. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by 'Cr Mitenell, it wae decided to write to the board on the matter, pointing out the position, and, asking that a note of amount payable by' Naseby be forwarded, when the matter would receive attention.
