THE NAVY LEAGUE.

. A meeting. of the Executive Committee of the Otago Branch of the Navy League ; j ,was held in the board room of the Educa- ' tion Office on the 18th inst. His Honor Mr Justice "Williams presided, and the , .members of the executive present were: — Messrs P. G. Pryde, J. Sinclair Thomson, j T. K. Harty (aoting hon. secretary), > MacandTew, P. Goyen, W. E. Reynolds, G. Fenwick, P. O. Bridgeman, W. A. Moore, R. Chisholm, and W. J. Morrell, M.A. The Secretary reported that there was a credit balance of £193 16s Id. Accounts -amounting to £35 16s 6d were passed for payment. «| Correspondence and reports in relation , to the amalgamation of the Ladies' Branch . w}th the league were considered, and it was intimated that the proposed amalgaimation rould not lake place owing to the difference in annual subscriptions, but that ' the Ladies' Branch could go on as it i had been doing and could give general assistance 10 the league as heretofore. Mr Goyen reported that information had been sent to the schools that this year the ; examination would be in tho form of an essay on a given subject, and that teachers would be furnished with particulars in October.

Correspondence from the executive of the Home league was read dealing with the" cleavage that had taken place, and on the motion of Mr G. Fenwiok, the following motion was passed — " That the Otago Branch of the Navy League desires to express its special sympathy with the executive of the league in the position it has taken up in connection witn the dis- | sension that has unfortunately arisen in its ranks, and wishes to express its strong j sense of the injury that would be caused to the oversea work of the league by the action of dissenting' members."

A conversational discussion .ensued as to what etepe should be taken to celebrate Trafalgar Day, the general opinion going in the direction of having some special demonstration which would enlist the interest of young people. During the discussion a suggestion was made that the league's journal might be made more interesting to boys, and Mr Goyen remarked that tho journal as at present compiled was' very uninteresting to most people, and particularly so to young people.
