KOPENICK MASQUERADER IMITATED.

Some of the exploits of the cobbler captain of Kopenick were repeated by Private Arthur Morgan, of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, at Stafford recently. In consequence he appeared before a district court-martial

at Wrexham Barracks on January 17. Morgan went on furlough, and took with him part of the kit of Lieutenant M. G. Jones, of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, for whom he had acted as servant at Wrexham. At Stafford Morgan's actions attracted considerable attention. He reprimanded several soldiers for appearing in slovenly uniform, threatening to report them. He accosted Sergeant-instructor

j Henry Smith, of the 2nd Volunteer BatI talion North Staffordshire Regiment, and ' had a conversation with him as to " pulling | up " soldiers on furlough who were impointed out an artilleryman, telling Smith I round Stafford. During the walk he I pointed out an artilleryman, telling Smith to reprimand him for having his cap on the back of his head. They afterwards met a lance-corporal of the Manchester

Regiment, and, noticing that he was not wearing his belt outside his overcoat, the pseudo-officer instructed Smith to take him to the armoury. There the lance-corporal was examined by Morgan and his answers were taken down by the sergeant-instructor, all the papers being signed by Morgan in the name of Lieutenant Jones. He threatened even to send the lance-corporal back to Guernsey, where the Manchester Regi-

ment was stationed, eventually he tore up the papers, and said he would overlook the offence. Subsequently Morgan's true position was discovered, and he was arrested. He pleaded guilty to the charge of conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline and of being in possession of his master* kit. The decision of the court has been sent to the general commanding the Welßb Border district for approval.
