BANKING RETURNS.
The following is a statement of the average amount of liabilities and asaeis of the Bank of New Zealand in New Zealand during the quarter ended June 24, 1907: — Liabilities. — Notes in circulation. £308,540 7s 3d; bills in circulation, £51,697 2s 2d; balances due to other banks, £25,199 18s Id; Government deposits, £2,419,147 9s 3d; other deposits — not bearing interest, £5,423,479 2s 7d; bearing interest, £4,548,636 Is Id;— total average liabilities, £13,376,600 Os sd. Assets. — Coined, gold and silver, and other coined metal, £1,903,455 2s; gold and silver in bullion or bars, £108,653 0s 2d; notes and bills of other banks, £108,759 8s 3d; balances due from other banks, £439 16s 7d; landed, property, £105,729 Is Id; amount of all other securities — (1) Notes and bills discounted, £857,603 3s ; (2) colonial Government securities, £1,034,608 10a 9d; (3) other funded securities, nil; (4) debts due to the bank (exclusive of debts abandoned as bad), £5,722,275 6s; (5) securities not included under the above heads, £385,206 12s 8d; — total average assets, £10,826,730 0s 6d. WELLINGTON, July 18. The following are the batik returns for the June quarter : — Deposits, free, £12,213,939; fixed, £9,629,025; Government, £2,419,147; discounts, £1,987,162; advance*, £16,033,352; note circulation.
£1.694,328;. coin and bullion, £4,755,808. The ordinary deposits show an increase of nearly £800,000 on the previous quarter;, but this is confined to free deposits, _ the fixed deposits showing a- diminution of £71,486, wihich is attributed to a heavy flow; to the Savings Bank. The assets are £26,015,486; liabilities, £26,134,728.
