OTAGO EDUCATION BOARD.
The quarterly returns of attendance for the period ended Jun© SO, which have been compiled by the secretary of , the Otago Education Board, show that there were 231 schools in operation in this district, employing 210 male and 345 female teachers. The number of pupils on the' rolls at the beginning of the quarter was 19,029, and at the end of the quarter 19,149, comprising 9870 boys and 9279 girls. The average attendance was 8904 boys and 8250 girls, making a -total of 17,154, being 280 more than Hie total for the previous quarter, and 124 less than for the June quarter, 1906. The number of pupils admitted during the quarter was 683 boys and 727 girls. The averages for the city and suburban sohools for the quarter were: — Albany Street, 605; Forbuxy, 601; Ca-vershaxn," 545; Kaikorai, 528; High Street, 520; George Street, 506; Union Street, 467; Arthur Street, 474; North-Btst Valley, 471; Mornington, 412; Macandrew Road, 383; Normal, 358; -Green Island, 316; Maori Hill, 217; Kensington. 212; Musselburgh,, 210; Raven sbaurne, 168; Anderson's Bay. 124; St. Clair, 106; Wakan, 89; Leith Valley, 44. The averages *t O*m«ru were:— North School, 315; South, 264; Middle. 228. A* the District Higli Sohools: Port Chalmers, 392; Balolutba. 294; Mosgiol, 249; Tokomairiro, 248; Lawrence, 236; Palmerston, 222; Tapanui, 163; Naseby, 135; Hampden. 98. During the quarter the schools at Allendale was closed. New schools were opened at Barewood, Kia-ora, and the school at Port Molyneux was reopened.
