THE GRAIN HELD.
CORRECTED RETURNS. WELLINGTON, July 3. The Department of Agriculture has issued corrected returns of the colony' a grain yield. The actual yields per acre for 1906-7 are: — Wheat. 27.18 bushels. Oats, 31.83 bushels. Barley. 31.08 bushels. The following are the details- of the yields, and quantities of wheat in hand : — The area for threshing was 206,185 acres, and the to.tal yield id computed at 5,605,252. bushels. The quantity of -wheat and flour returned on hand at 31st October, 1906, was 3,126,300 bushels; the quantity of wheat and flour imported from Ist November, 1906, to 28th February. 1907 r was 5,642,26* bushels, making a, total of 8,767.564 bushels. From j this has to be taken the wheat and flour , exported from Ist November, 1906, to 28th February, 1907—19,200 bushels, and the consumption for the same period, 1 88Q,000 bushels — leaving the amount available for all purposes on 28th February, 1007, at 6.868 264 bushels. The estimated auandty required for
seed te. 500,000 bushels ; the estimated consumption to 28th February, 1908, is 5,760,000 bushels;— total, 6,260,000 bushels;, leaving an apparent surplus of 608,234 bushels.
