i Otago Club.— The meetings of the Otag< - Club have been well attended recently, *n». always interesting. Mr Davidson; station* - - master, Sawyers r Bay, .was among th« Visitors. He promised to raise » team from his district and Port, if possible, to &% battle against Dunedin on a date yet' to b* fixed. Various Trials.— Mr J. M. Hutton, oil Ravensbourne, was for some time laid u« by an accident, but hns itgain resumed hill daily occupation. He hopes also to be baciti at the club on Saturday next. A series oft troubles has befallen the Borehtm fami l^ . reoently. First, Miss Boreham, sister of th* • well-known draughts players, broke her arm. Then Mr J. A. Boreham's youngest child! took ill, and has for two weeks been in w . critical condition, requiring coubtant siidl close attention, and many readers will know what that means. At a crucial stage in the.' - child's illness, word was received of ther death of Mr Jos. Boreham's child at Oamaru/Mr J. -A. Boreha-m could not leave his own[ : home to go north; but Me Steve Borehan* went to Oamaru, and while there his own- ■ son, 12 years of age, took, ill, and now lies in great suffering, which the doctors cannot alleviate, and with no hope of recovery^ We feel sure we are voicing the feelings of all who know the Borehams personally* or by reputation when we express deepest* sympathy with them in their afflictions. Chatter. — We have received a few number* of Chatter, including . the May number: Chatter is a London monthly of light reading} matter, containing two full pages of draughts,, edited by Mr A t Ritchie, who makes excellent use 'of his space. " Camlachie " writes from- Palmerston, tinder date July s:— " Draughts, seems to bat having a bit of a- boom up this way; everybody is taking to the game. There has been; a club at Dunback for some time, and thera v is likely to be some matches between, us before the end of the season. ' Give Lucas m? respects. Tell him I hope to make if tougher for him at the next Town versus Country. He is an all-right chap for an* opponent." East Clutha. — A correspondent writes: — " I am pleased to be able to report that Eastf Clutha Club is in a, thriving position both! financially and numerically. Afc the annual! - meeting, held at Ronmhapa> Mr M. T. Jackman .was elected, captain, and Mr Geo. Ha^st secretary for the ensuing year. The club' practices ate held in Mr Marwick's room, and are well attended." Gore. — Gore Club is in a very healthy condition this year, and the club's victory against; Invercargill will give & decided impetus to the club and the game. A handicap tournament is at present in progress. The return, match with Inv*rcargill takes place on 'Wednesday, the 10£h, at Invercargill.
