HORSE KILLED BY A TRAMCAR.
AUCKLAND, June 20.
A valuable horse belonging to the New Zealand Express Company was killed by a tramcar in Custom street west this morning. One of the company’s lorries was being driven along the street when the driver, in order to avoid a telegraph pole, pulled out slightly. The tramcar was approaching, and before it could be stopped it caught the swingle tree of the lorry, smashing the harness, and throwing the near horse an almost complete somersault, breaking lits back. The driver escaped unhurt. The suffering animal was speedily shot.
