DUNEDIN D.L.F. LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB.

Motto : " Union is *tr«ngth." The usual- weekly" meeting of the club was held in the "Witness Office on June 11. The secretary (Scobie) was unavoidably absent, and A Mother's Xiass, on being asked to 'fulfil the duties of secretary fox the evening, kindly consented. The president (Go Hon) presided, and after the minutes of the previous evening were read ' and confirmed Go Hon, extended «. very hearty welcome to the country visitors — viz., Darky, Pansy Blossom, Glaucia, Fairy Denise, and Cornish. Cornish replied on behalf -of the visitor?, and further intimated that he was stationed in Dunedin "for «. time, and would endeavour to be with us occasionally. Two papers which arrived too late for our Special Debate on June 6, "Aro We Colonials Too Fond of Sport?" were read. Both papers— one from A Silent Member (negative) and one from Mountain Rambler (also negative) — were heartily enjoyed, and we regret much tbat they arrived too late for our Special Debate. The evening being devoted to " Humorous Readings," the following papers were then read : " Potted lead, by A Mother's Lass; a selection of Clippings by Go Hon, which, were greatly enjoyed ; a paper, " A Little More Nonsense," by Venetia Corona., read by Go Hon, and enjoyed by all ; ' The Dog-faced Man," by Areta ; reading, by Corniah ; Newspaper Clippings," Go Hon ; reading (selected), A Mother's Lass. Go Hon then announced that the subject for next evening would be : " Are Trades Unions on the Whole Mischievous or Beneficial?" A Mother's Lass was appointed leader for the " beneficial" side, and Scots Grey for the " mischievous" side. The President also reminded members that all papers for Special Subject Week should reach the Witness Office by June 29, and at the same time urged members to contribute. Several business matters were brought before the meeting, and the meeting then closed. Country members are earnestly requested to contribute to any of our meetings.
